“I Can Tell”

What is “I Can Tell?”

SCAN’s Family Support Specialist, Wren, explains “I Can Tell” for families and school staff:

"I Can Tell" Take-aways

  •  Our bodies offer us physical sensations when we aren’t safe. We can learn to identify these sensations as early warning signs that we need to seek safety.

  • Our private parts are located in the areas of our bodies which would be covered by a swimsuit. These parts of our bodies may not be looked at or touched by anyone, except in situations when we need specific help or care.

  • Good secrets make us feel good, and are about something happy or exciting; Bad secrets make us feel bad, and are about someone who needs help and protection.

  • We are allowed to say “no” to anyone who wants to touch us. Our bodies belong to us, so we get to choose who touches us.

  • No one is allowed to enter our personal space without our permission.

  • Trusted Adults make us feel safe, listen to us, and can help and protect us when needed.
